Which specialized equipment is used to make a physical connection from a PC to a network?
That was a little tricky, but because it says "specialized equipment", router would have been the answer. You can use a crossover cable to make a physical connection to another computer which is a network, in which case I would think d could be the right answer. But, a nic isn't really specialized equipment. It is more of a component.
Reply:I disagree! A router connects different networks together and is not used to connect a PC to a network. You can not physically connect a PC to a network using a router - the router is external to the PC and needs something to connect the PC to it - that device being a NIC. Report It

Reply:Answer D is correct. None of the other devices have the ability to connect a PC to a network.
Reply:D. Network Interface Card.
Reply:So what about a modem? You cant use a modem to make a physical connection to a network? Even though you are dialing a phone number, it is still a router on the other end handling the network data. The right answer is A) Router. Plus, you could use a wireless card, a fiber optic card, or even an IR port to make a connection to a network. With that said, the right answer is A) Router.
Reply:correct answer is a router. d is part of the pc.
Reply:Yup a NIC

Answer should be (d)

If the teacher thinks its a router then he is a idiot. A NIC can be plugged into a router or a modem. But neither can be done without a NIC.
